At Yardstix, our focus is secondary dwellings. We’re calling it ‘Backyard Architecture’ – a sort of ‘next-gen’ granny flat. Available in 3 sizes (20,40 & 60m2) and multiple configurations, our houses best address the site and the needs of the occupant.
Our houses are designed to capture prevailing breezes, attract the warmth of the sun in winter but exclude it’s heat in summer, reducing or eliminating the need for air-conditioning. Our houses are more than 80% timber. Timber is renewable, fast growing and stores carbon to help save our planet

The Yardstix Y20 (studio) has been featured on the ‘Never Too Small’ series. The popular channel features beautifully and cleverly designed small spaces. They chat with the architects and designers about the ideas, philosophies and stories behind their designs. Watch the video here
Cross laminated timber
We’re very proud to have constructed the first house built in Australia from locally made Cross Laminated Timber (CLT).
At Yardstix, we believe CLT will redefine construction as the new alternative to steel and concrete. Here’s just a few reasons why...
CLT panels fit together quickly on site and building is therefore much faster and less labour intensive.
CLT panels are manufactured using CNC machining technology to ensure high precision and eliminate waste on site.
CLT is sustainable - Timber is renewable, fast growing and stores carbon to help save our planet.
CLT out-performs conventional framed construction in air-tightness, thermal insulation, internal moisture management, acoustic insulation and fire resistance.
